Application Methods

Inhalation: place 2-4 drops of essential oil on a handkerchief or tissue paper. Hold cloth or tissue paper in palm of hand and take 2-3 deep inhalations through the nose.   Bonus tip: If you have any of the same problems that can be alleviated with inhalation, you can also place 2-4 drops on your pillowcase so that the oils can work throughout the night.

Steam Inhalation: Boil 2 cups of water, reduce heat and let water cool for 5-10 minutes. Add 2-3 drops of essential oil. While seated, lean over and position head approximately 4 inches above pot. Place a towel over head covering head and pot to trap the steam. Inhale vapors for approximately 10 minutes. For facial cleansing, steam once a week. For respiratory ailments, steam inhalation can be performed 3 times a day.

Compress: Add 4-7 drops of essential oil to a bowl of warm water, wring out and apply to area. Repeat when cloth cools.

Bath: Add 5-12 drops to a warm bath and swish with fingertips to disperse. You can also add a couple of teaspoons of massage oil for added moisturization.

Neat: Application of essential oil without dilution in a carrier oil. With the exception of a few, most essential oils should not be applied undiluted to the skin.

Diffuser: There are several different types of diffusers.

Lamp Diffuser: A small ceramic ring that fits around the top of a light bulb. The ring is grooved so that the oil is evenly spread throughout the diffuser.

Clay Pot Diffuser: a small clay pot or pyramid with an opening at the top. The strength of the aroma depends on how much oil is added.

Candle Diffuser: Think fondue. An iron stand with a place for a tea candle at the base with a small saucer above for the oil.


Cooking with Essential Oils

ReSolution Spa Lavender Muffins

The goat cheese glaze adds a touch of moisture and tang to these wholesome muffins. The lavender flavor comes mainly from the ReSolution Spa Sweet Dreams Essential Oil which is a blend of Bulgarian Lavender and Sweet Orange. These are ideal for a breakfast or brunch and of course I always try to use organic ingredients when as possible.

Ingredients

Muffin:
½ cup light brown sugar
¾ cup expeller pressed
2 large eggs
2 cups plain flour
¾ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch of salt
Zest of ½ lemon
Zest of ½ orange
2/3 cup grated carrots (time saver: use the shredding attachment on your food processor)
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup raisins
1-2 drop(s) of ReSolution Spa Sweet Dreams Essential Oil
12 muffin cups


Glaze:
4 oz. goat cheese
2 oz. butter, softened to room temperature
¾ cup confectioners’ sugar
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon rice milk
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
½ teaspoon lemon zest
3 tablespoons of fresh squeezed orange juice
2 drops of ReSolution Spa Sweet Dreams Essential Oil
12 sprigs of lavender for garnish (not necessary, but a fabulous finishing touch)
Pastry brush, medium sized

Baking Method:

Preheat oven to 400° F.
Beat the sugar and oil together.
Add eggs one at a time.
Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, zests.
Fold in walnuts, carrots, and raisins.
Fill muffin cups about half full.
Bake for 20 minutes.
Cool and start with the icing.


In a small bowl, blend goat cheese and butter using a fork.
Add confectioners’ sugar and blend.
Fold in honey, rice milk, orange juice, vanilla, or almond extract, and lemon zest.
Spread on warm muffins with a pastry brush.
Garnish with lavender sprigs and serve.


Lemon-steamed vegetables

This is a simple dish and requires high quality produce to really produce the true taste. The presentation will do wonders for your plate! The ReSolution Spa Lemon Essential Oil can be exchanged with any of the other ReSolution Spa essential oils- try lavender for provencal-style vegetables.

Ingredients:

4 drops ReSolution Spa Lemon Essential Oil 1 pound haricot vert
carrots cut into 8 strips
8 red bell pepper strips
1 yellow squash

Method:
Cut squash into ¼” medallions.
Cut out the center of the medallions until the rim is about 1/8” thick.
Stuff the squash rings with equal parts haricot vert, red bell pepper strips, and carrots.
Bring 1” water to a boil in a large pot.
Add 4 drops lemon or orange essential oil to the water.
Steam veggie bundles in steam basket for 10 minutes.
Season lightly with salt, pepper, and olive oil if desired.

Apple Orange Sorbet
Serves 4

4 cups of Gala Apples, pureed
4 drops of Resolution Spa Orange Essential Oil
2 cups of ice
Zest of ½ orange (optional)

Method:
Combine first three ingredients into a blender or food processor and puree until mixture is nice and smooth. Garnish with orange zest and serve as a deliciously refreshing summer dessert. Can also be served over vanilla ice cream as a garnish.
